Heatwave from Hell!!!

I have to wonder how the Victorians put up with this utterly bizarre weather.
Lake Tyers near Lakes Entrance is now our camp spot. When we arrived on Friday I was hot one minute cold the next....No it definitely wasn't menopausal! That night I donned my warm jumper and had long pants and sox on. The locals said we were in for a hot day the next day..Saturday.
"Bring it on!" I said, bragging to all and sundry that I could cope with heat being from Cooktown.
Famous last words. Victoria had its hottest day on record 46.4 degrees where we were. We might as well have been plonked right in the middle of the Simpson desert. The wind blew stinking hot air, the force of it so great it snapped a tent peg and severely compromised our camp set up. We had to race into town for extra tent poles to secure our area. Had we not have done so, our camp would have crossed Bass Strait without us.
Everything we touched glowed hot, even under the shade of our tarp. For hours I sat with my feet in a dish of water and my head covered in a wet washer. Cold water turned to hot in minutes.
We drove for awhile just to enjoy the airconditioning and came upon an accident. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. An elderly gentlemen had run up an embankment when his dog had wriggled under his feet. Steve gave a hand to get the vehicle back on its wheels and with help of other motorists he was driven home.
In the afternoon when the temperature peaked we sat in a lake in the shade of a jetty. The sky went an odd colour and ash from raging bushfires and dust filled the air. If I had tucked a seed into the corner of my eye I could have sprouted a healthy plant, such was the amount of topsoil that accumulated there.
According to todays paper the temperature then dropped 17 degrees late in the afternoon!
Today I sit with long sleeves and cold feet....Unbelievable!

You sure are in the hottest part of Oz. I belive there was at one stage a 10 degree difference between Victoria and Townsville (with Townsville being the cooler place to be). The weather down south has surely been hitting new records. I bet there is no consolation that the heat is a "dry" heat - hot is hot to me!! The fires have been devestating, take care on your travels and keep up the Slip, Slop and Slap, LOL
