Ridng around Rottnest

Though I wasn't firing on all cylinders, I was determined to take advantage of the good weather predicted for the Perth area and make the trip to Rottnest Island with Steve. We jumped on the ferry at Fremantle on a perfect windless day and sped across the 19 kilometers in comfort. It was a spectacular few days for biking around the island, [although a carrier on the bike would have been nice to carry the snorkelling gear..poor Steve!] Loved befriending the quokkas....dear little nocturnal creatures unique to the island.  It is also a car free zone which adds to the relaxation, and there are numerous turquoise bays and beaches to explore...a perfect getaway!

Crabs, Crazy Dogs and Camping at Cliff Head

Setting up the free campsite at Cliff Head was hilarious when you compare the size of our teeny weeny trailer to Erica and Brian's camper trailer with its Taj Mahal of tents!  They are terrific camp companions, and Brian being one of the big bosses at Steve's minesite, enabled him to swing the rosters so some of their days off would coincide for camping adventures.
They have 2 staffy dogs who enjoy the great outdoors as well as jumping on poor Steve's severely sunburnt feet.
The Indian Ocean was a mill pond in the mornings and long walks along the beach were extremely peaceful without the crashing of waves...perfect for netting fish and crab, which we ate later...delicious dining!
The quad bike was just the thing for exploring the area and although I nearly lost Erica off the back in some shrubs due to my bad handling it was good fun.
It was a very relaxing few days with great food, great company and a seemingly endless supply of red wine...now, where to next??......
