It's shift 3 for Steve and with camera on the job he captures some shots....mostly of goats! They belong to the landowner and run wild everywhere at the mine.....running especially hard when they are blasting I imagine.
Tallering Peak is mined for iron ore and is vastly different from the tin mine where Steve worked in Cooktown. There, he drove through pristine ranforest every day to get to work. Here it is a 4 hour return journey from our cosy cottage in Dongara, along largely featureless roads. It is dry, and barren but still with that wonderful Aussie outback beauty which will be enhanced when the rains arrive and the gorgeous wildflowers cover the ground.
Steve lives on the campsite for 9 days and then has 5 days off. Usually I drop him off and pick him up, but we might review this arrangement as I rarely use the car in Dongara, being right in the centre of town....and my dear friend Erica has offered their spare car should I need one.
Steve is very happy with his job and from all accounts they are very happy with him, which makes everyone happy all round...especially me....though I miss him madly. I do keep busy however and have purchased art supplies for the duration. I have completed one piece for the lounge and that led to a comission for a couple of paintings for our real estate man, which was great.
More on our house etc on the next blog....
