A Day out with Johnno

It's difficult to waffle on about our adventures when so many lives here have been affected by fires.
However...
Our mate from Cooktown, Johnno, kindly drove us around to show us some of the area he spent 20 years enjoying. We drove up to Nowa Nowa and I was blown away by the timber sculptures we saw. The gallery was closed but Johnno spotted the owners, old friends from 15 years prior, who happily gave us a guided tour, (free....it's not what you know..)
Not far was the old trestle bridge built in the 1800's from enormous lengths of timber and an engineering marvel from the olden days.
Then off to meet Johnnos folks at their farm.
Audrey and Ormond..a thoroughly delightful old couple living an idyllic life on 200 beautiful acres, complete with apple orchards, blood plum trees (bloody yummy!), grape vines, pear trees, pretty flowerbeds and the usual farm animals. I was in my element! We sipped our tea, sitting in the old farmhouse laughing at the story of how Johhno posted his Mum a Cooktown coconut, by simply writing her address on the outside of the coconut and sending it via Australia post. It now has pride of place on Audreys mantle piece.
Naturally they preserve all the fruit, grow their own veges and enjoy a simple, peaceful life. Now if Steve and I could just find that perfect place in South East Queensland....
